Following the women's season review from a few weeks ago, it's now time to look back over the men's campaign. Having had their season cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Sergi Saldana and his side can still feel a huge sense of achievement during this difficult period.
Competing in both the NFL Premiership North and the National Futsal Series, this year was brimming with fantastic results, which saw the Blues consolidate themselves as one of the top teams in the country. Although there was a significant portion of the season still yet to be played, the first team finished the NFL Premiership North in fourth, while the National Futsal Series saw them finish in a very respectable fifth place.
We decided to catch up with manager Sergi Saldana to give us his view on how the season unfolded.
How do you think the team has performed throughout the season?
"The team has had ups and downs but we have competed all throughout the season. If you check all of our games, the ones that we have lost have been by a goal or two, and this shows that we are very close to the top teams".
Are you taking any measures in terms preparing for next season during lockdown?
"During this difficult time, we don't know when it is going to be possible to train again so the most important thing now is to be safe, stay at home with your family and look after yourself. Futsal has gone into the background because our health is the priority".
Lastly, what are some of your favourite moments from this season?
"Definitely the best moment is when we beat London Helvecia. The first game we lost 3 - 2 and we knew that we were very close, and fortunately in the second game we won. We have been fighting to beat them since I arrived here and we finally managed it this season, so I am happy for the team. Especially since we compete with a very young team and they showed their desire to compete against the best team in the country".
From all of us at Manchester Futsal, we sincerely hope your are keeping safe and we wish you the very best. We will be back, and no doubt stronger than before.
