MATCH PREVIEW: Manchester Development v Pro Futsal - Futsal FA Cup

by Riegan Thompson

Manchester Development host Pro Futsal in the second round of the Futsal FA Cup. Having been handed a bye to reach this stage of the competition, Russell Fryer's side are looking to progress against their Division One South opponents.

Pro Futsal sit second in their respective league, with only the unbeaten London United ahead of them.

Last time out the Development side ran out 4-2 winners against Wigan Futsal Academy. Russell gave us his thoughts on the game. "It was a positive result, but I know how intense this team trains, we expect nothing less and it’s great when I hear the players pushing each other to get he most out of themselves. We have a great ethos and attitude here and we take that into our games."

Although the side had over a month break between the win over Wigan and the previous game - Russell did not believe there was any 'rustiness'. "If there was, it didn’t show. We challenged for every ball and played some slick Futsal, none more-so than Rylan’s goal, where we went from back to front with one touch passing to finish on the second post. I feel like we are strong and focused and the gap between Develipment and Seniors has never been smaller than it is now, resulting in some of our players being called up regularly to Super League games."

Russell insisted that although this is a cup game, there will be no temptation to change things round. "No, we stick to the plan. I’ve had a look at them and whilst you can never plan for all eventualities, I like to think we are as prepared as we can be for such a tough game, against higher ranked opponents."

And as always, Russell gave us a team update ahead of the fixture. "Harry is ineligible as we have named him in the senior team said for this competition, Spencer is still not back in training, Adam Rawcliffe is missing for us this week and Sam Wrigley is completing his FA Level One in Football this week, so we are down to a 9 man squad, but we are happy with who we have available to us and still feel we can give a good performance out there."

Manchester Development take on Pro Futsal on Sunday 10th Febuary (16:30 KO) at the National Cycling centre, following on from the senior sides Super League tie with Loughborough.
