No introduction is needed. The excitement is building, the new FA Futsal Super League season is almost here. Manchester will host last season’s runners-up Helvecia at the National Cycling Centre in their opening game of the season on Sunday.
The Blues are expected to line-up on court in good spirits, after a goal-fest of a pre-season. Wins over Newcastle, Tranmere Rovers, Cheshire & Bolton capped off the perfect way to prepare for the new campaign.
The feeling of a new era dawns for the club as Manchester will sport their new Umbro kit for the first time in competitive action, with Head Coach Sergi Saldana manning the touchline as he embarks on his second season at the club.
Five goals each for the England and Northern Ireland internationals Jordan Edge and Danny Stapleton saw them top the goalscoring charts in the summer, with captain Sam Richardson and the experienced Raducio King rounding off the festivities with four goals respectively.
Their opponents - who ran Reading close to the Super League title last season - will be raring to go with England captain Raoni Medina leading the line for the north London-outfit, they put nine goals past Southend during their summer preparations.
Saldana wrote on Twitter about how positive he feels about the potential of this side after an intense summer of training.
“A lot of work to do but I can see the potential of this team. With patience and training hard we will have a good season, that’s for sure!”
Manchester’s season opener will get underway at 2:30pm and will top the futsal bill for the afternoon as the Blues’ Development side follows the Super League action as they line-up against Sunderland at 4:30pm.
