Match preview: London Baku United

by Reigan Thompson

Interim Head Coach Sam Richardson spoke to us before the team’s training session heading into this weekend’s play off decider at home to London Baku United.

Richardson began by reflecting on Sunday’s 1-1 draw in the away leg. “The result was decent, we’ll take the draw as it means it will comes down to Sunday to decide who goes through. It makes it easier to manage as this time we know if we win we go through.”

“We played on a court we weren’t familiar to. Obviously, Baku train there and play there so that might be why we struggled to begin with. It was a bit wider to what we were used to so it took a while to adjust. Hopefully playing on our home court on Sunday should give us an advantage.”

When discussing how the 1st Leg encounter had helped him learn more about Baku Richardson felt it served as a good indicator of their current l level, “As I said previously we hadn’t played each other in a while so we were both pretty unfamiliar with each other. Although, once you get that game against each other you know a little bit more. The players themselves will now know who was good at doing what without me telling them. So, they’ll naturally look to exploit that.”

He continued, “I think we need to impose our own game on them a little bit more. There’s a couple of things there we can look at over the next few days in training and maybe add it in on Sunday.”

It’s now three games on the bounce for Manchester Futsal Club and Richardson expressed his and the players delight. “The team want to play games and play the best teams, and that’s what we’ve been able to do over the last month or so. This has given us something to look forward to and has gave us the opportunity to kick on in training, which makes it more competitive.”
