Manchester Futsal Women’s coordinator Leanne Skarratt reviews the Club’s participation in the Hovocubo International Futsal Tournament in Amsterdam.
“I thought we did really well overall, we finished 5th out of 6th overall. We came up against some really strong teams from Spain, Germany, Holland, Belgium and Liverpool – which was nice to have a team from England over there.”
Speaking about the set-up of the tournament as a whole Skarratt reflected that the whole experience had been really positive;
“It’s given women’s futsal in northern Europe some good exposure. There’s a lot of futsal in southern Europe and Latin America. However, with all of these teams being from northern Europe it was a great advert for futsal in this part of the world.”
Skarratt went on to speak of the upcoming Super 8 Play-off tie against South London, “It will be a really tough game. South London won the southern league and we finished in the last qualifying space in the northern league. I haven’t seen South London play but from what I’ve heard they’re a really accomplished team.”
She went on to add, “It’s going to be a good experience for us but nonetheless it’ll be a tough test. We’ll have to be at our best to proceed. When you haven’t got any background information on the opponent it’s difficult to prepare specifically for that game, so we’ve been working on what we feel as a team we need to improve. On the day, it’ll be a case of working South London out early in the game and pushing on from there.”
Manchester Women’s Futsal will play South London on Saturday 27th May in the Super 8 Play-off. The winning team will advance to the FA Futsal Grand Finals at the University of Wolverhampton on the 4-5th June.
