Manchester head to Sweden for end of season tournament

No sooner will the curtain close on the 2009/10 season and Manchester Futsal Club will travel to Gothenburg on 09 October as guests of Gothenburg Futsal Club http://www.svenskalag.se/gfc to take part in a triangular futsal tournament along with Universidad Catolica http://www.ucufutsal.com/ from Uruguay. The club have formed a close working relationship with Gothenburg Futsal Club following their visit to Manchester in the Spring to discuss club development and the growth of futsal in both Sweden and England. Both nations have taken to the UEFA and FIFA small-sided in a similar fashion so the trip will be a useful exercise in seeing how Manchester compete against their Swedish and Uruguayan counterparts.
The trip will also include a seminar delivered by Gothenburg Futsal Club and the Swedish Futsal Federation. Gothenburg Futsal Club Chairman Martin Noren has been instrumental in leading the club’s development and General Manager of Manchester Futsal Club Simon Wright see’s many similarities in where both club’s are at in their development. “Martin was very keen to find out our approach to raising the profile of futsal both locally and nationally when he and club officials visited Manchester to speak with us. It will now be great to see how both teams match up on the court.”
Universidad Catolica will be competing in the tournament as part of their own European tour that will see them visit Middlesbrough to take part in the Errea International Futsal Cup which is hosted by fellow FA Futsal Conference North counterparts Middlesbrough Futsal Club. Manchester can expect some tough competition at the end of a long domestic season.
The club will use the tournament to review the current squad ahead of pre-season trails that are due to take place in mid-October where the club will be hoping to bring in some extra quality for the season opener in January 2010.
